climbing and mountaineering

I am a member of st.helens mountaineering club and climb regularly at the north west face climbing wall in Warrington. For general information on climbing see the bmc or uk climbing. Also, for another perspective on climbing from a warrington regular see steve pardoe's website.

More photographs by me and my mates are available on my flickr photos page.

I also have a few other climbing related photographs in my photo gallery on ukclimbing.com.

advice for beginners

Don't do it. Climbing can seriously hurt or even kill you. It is also an addiction which is detrimental to relationships with your life partner, non-climbing friends, relatives and anyone else who claims to have your best interests at heart.

If you feel that you must persist with this foolish obsession, then learn to do it right. Check the bmc to get details of your nearest club and climbing wall. You can also seek advice from the many forums on uk climbing.

p.s.

Always wear a helmet.

poor southerners

I consider myself to be incredibly lucky to have been brought up in the North of England. Most of the great climbing venues in the Lake District, North Wales, the Peak District, Yorkshire and Lancashire are less than two hours drive away. Now let us give some thought for those less fortunate than ourselves. In addition to all their other disadvantages, those poor southerners haven't got any proper mountains to climb. The best they can do is a few little sandstone outcrops. So if you are still living "somewhere down there" feel free to check ot these guides to Bouldering on Southern Sandstone.
